Dharma Bums Day

Saturday, October 18th, 2008 marks the 50th Anniversary of the release of Jack Kerouac’s novel, The Dharma Bums! Come by Uptown Billiards, 114 N. Leroux St., Flagstaff, Arizona on the 18th at 3PM for a tribute and readings from the landmark novel, as well as readings of Gary Snyder, Allen Ginsberg and other key Beat characters that composed the novel’s cast. Rumor has it acclaimed American novelist, Sean Carswell will be in town and might drop in to read a chapter before his evening book signing and reading at Bookman’s. Hope to see you all there. Its that time of year again! This Friday, September the 19th Uptown Billiards will be celebrating Halfway to St. Paddys Day! There will be a whiskey tasting starting at 6:00 and Flagstaff’s favorite Irish band the Knockabouts will start playing at 9:00. Come on down for a great time, its been 6 months since the last time you had this much fun!

Scotch and Celtic Poetry!

For the best in Scotch & Celtic Poetry come on by Uptown Billiards, 114 N. Leroux St., Flagstaff, Arizona from 5:30-7:00PM on Friday, April 11, 2008. Hosted by Jude McKenzie of the Northern Arizona Celtic Society, we’ll be sampling a selection of Glenfiddich whisky while learning about distillation processes and finding out about the history of Scotch. While your palettes discover new flavours, we’ll have a reading of Celtic Poetry to fill your ears. Traditional and Contemporary Poetry will be read by various, esteemed local authors.

The tasting will cost $15 with all proceeds to be donated to the Northern Arizona Book Festival. The Scotch for this tasting has been provided generously by Ray Pearson of William Grant & Sons.

Hope to see you all there. It’ll be a heckuva way to kick off your weekend!

Jill Divine Signs Her New Book GAME and The Knockabouts Play

Come by and here award-winning poet, Jill Divine, read from her new manuscript, GAME. The reading will take place at 6PM, Wednesday, February 13th at Uptown Billiards, 114 N. Leroux St., Flagstaff, Arizona. A book signing will begin shortly after the reading and last until around 8PM.After you recover from your fill of poetry, help the Knockabouts, Flagstaff’s Favorite Celtic Band, kick off St. “Practice” Day and the Great Guinness Toast on Friday, February 15th at Uptown Billiards. Email, Scotches and 9 Ball O’ My!

Hello. Thanks to work the Mr. Wizard of the Computer World, Chris Greenough (a.k.a. “The GreenO) our email list is back and running and ready to notify all of you of the latest going ons at Uptown Billiards. Thanks GreenO.

Come by for a tasting of premiere & unique Scotches on Saturday, August 26th at 6:00PM. Alyson Jay will be making the selections for this one. So far on the list we have Old Pultenney from the farthest north of the Highland distilleries, and she’s working on some other unusual selections currently. It’ll be $25 for a sampling of five. Slainte!

Also, for you 9 ball players we have a tournament on Sunday, 8/26 at 2PM. Come by a half hour early to sign up.

On the music front, singer & song writer, Alyson Jay will be playing Tuesday, 8/28 at 8PM. And keep in mind the 4th Annual Half Way to St Paddy’s Day party on Saturday 9/15 (which as always features Flagstaff’s favorite Celtic band, The Knockabouts - and this year they’re releasing their 3rd CD on that date as well).
